Oral Surgery & Your Holiday Feast!

Posted on

The holiday season is around the corner! This is a time when many patients choose to have an oral surgery procedure completed due to a prolonged break from work or school. However, there are definitely concerns we hear from our patients when scheduling these appointments, especially because the holidays are about food, enjoying time with family, and travel.

Fear not, you won’t be restricted to sipping chicken broth and eating oatmeal while others celebrate with the holiday food. There are plenty of other festive foods you can eat while recovering from oral surgery. Whether you had a tooth extraction, wisdom teeth extraction OR dental implant surgery, you can still travel, participate in family activities, and indulge in many foods.

With the holidays quickly approaching, you might be considering taking care of a tooth extraction, dental implant, or scheduling your kid’s wisdom teeth extraction during the upcoming break.

Many people enjoy extended time off during the holidays, providing ample time for recovery without the stress of work or school. Sitting on the couch and watching your favorite holiday movie!

There are plenty of holiday dishes that you can enjoy while you are healing! Some of our favorite suggestions are:

  • Prime rib roast, glazed spiral sliced ham, roast pork, roast beef with vegetables
  • Classic Beef Wellington
  • Beef stews
  • Pizza and Burgers with fries
  • Classic holiday casseroles such as Cheesy Broccoli Rice, Southern Squash Casserole or Mac ‘n Cheese.
  • Mashed potatoes with delicious savory gravy
  • Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Butternut Squash
  • Traditional cornbread dressing
  • Soft breads, muffins and cookies
  • Milk Shakes and Banana Smoothies.
  • Cheesecake, Cherry Pie, Buttermilk Pie, Soufflés and Cakes

In most cases, oral surgery shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying your holidays!

Pain medication and antibiotics will be prescribed for you to make your recovery as easy as possible, and remember it is extremely important to maintain good oral hygiene because a clean wound heals better and faster! Resuming back to a normal diet is highly encouraged and you will feel a lot better!
