You may be wondering whether or not you will need a referral from your general dentist or another dental professional to get an appointment. This is a great question, so in order to help you prepare for your first visit with Dr. Taylor, we’re going to talk a bit more about referrals.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons offer a range of procedures such as wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, and oral pathology. Patients are typically referred by a general dentist. A referral is preferred as it provides Dr. Taylor and his team with beneficial information regarding the specifics of your case and concerns. This will also facilitate good communication between Dr. Taylor and your general dentist.
Another great reason to seek out an oral surgery referral first is that you want to have your dentist involved in the process — it’s better for you long-term. They’ll be able to fully communicate with each other along the way. A team approach is always better for the patient. We love to work with your general dentists to provide the best care possible for you!
During your first visit or consultation, our team will go through a complete review of your medical history in order to have the most up-to-date health records possible.
At your consultation, Dr. Taylor will also discuss your diagnosis, review your anesthesia/sedation options and treatment plan based on X-rays and a referral from your general dentist.
We highly encourage you to ask us any questions you have during your first visit so you can make sure you are making the most informed decision when it comes to your dental health and treatment options.
Our financial coordinator will then prepare a treatment plan for you that outlines all planned procedures and provides a total cost estimate.
We understand that the prospect of having to undergo oral surgery might be daunting and even a little scary, so we work to carefully explain the process to you. We want to make sure that you fully understand what will happen during your procedure, and we will walk through your pre- and post-surgery instructions step by step so that you will be fully prepared for your surgery appointment.
